Grace Barbe

Grace Barbé is a Seychelloise singer/songwriter, whose music reflects and celebrates the diverse cultural influences of her Indian Ocean. The combination of seggae, afro-funk, roots and reggae create a mixing pot of danceable styles and powerful vocals.

A winner of the 2006 WAMI (Western Australian Music Industry) ‘Song of the Year’ award for the world and folk category, Grace writes and sings in three languages; English, Creole and French, with the ability to also play bass, guitar and the melodica.

Her ability to fuse traditional and modern sounds whilst retaining her own identity, has earned her a loyal following and given her the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as UB40, Ben Lee, Bomba, The Black Seeds, Ernest Ranglin, Junior Reid, Jah Mason and South Rakkas Crew.

Grace released her debut single "Mon Arive/Breaking Down" in October 2007, which topped the Triple J Unearthed Roots Charts in 2008. The double A-side single was recorded with top UK producer, Jeremy Allom, best known for mixing Massive Attack’s first album “Blue Lines” and working with artists such as Sly & Robbie, Freddie McGreggor and Maxie Priest. Both tracks will be included on Grace's forthcoming album, "Kréol Daughter".

Grace and her band are currently in the studio recording her album which is due to be released December 2008
